Recently Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra was in Guwahati to attend the Assam Travel Conclave 2016. She was declared the Brand Ambassador of Assam Tourism by the Minister of Tourism, Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma. ‘I am fortunate that the Government of Assam has appointed me as the Tourism Ambassador of the State and I will take the State, its people, food, wildlife, greenery, culture and food to the global stage and truly show the world how awesome Assam is,’ said the actor.
Although not originally from Northeast India, Priyanka has strong bonds with the region. In fact, she had visited the region multiple times during the making of biopic Mary Kom.
‘The true essence of Assam and the Northeast is not appreciated fully in India and maybe even the world does not know much about it, but I am committed to present the incredible part of Assam’s diversity and unity to the outside world in the right perspective,’ she said.
She has also stated that her tight schedules will not affect her role as the Brand Ambassador of Assam Tourism. ‘My managers plan my schedules well and I have kept my commitments so far. I am committed to discover Assam and show my discovery to the world.’
She visited the Shaktipeeth of Kamakhya Temple and commented that she would love to explore the State more in her next visit
