GUWAHATI, July 5:
Four persons died and at least 16 were seriously injured when a Dhubri-bound passenger bus travelling from Guwahati lost control and fell down from a bridge near Boko-Bondapara around 8:30 am today.
The private bus (AS01-FC-2511), full of passengers due to the festive season, apparently lost control, while trying to overtake another vehicle and fell on a rivulet, said South Kamrup DC Rajiv Prakash Baruah.
“Those injured have been shifted to the GMCH and except one, condition of other passengers is stable. Other passengers with minor injuries were given the first aid locally,” he added.
Two search and rescue teams of the 1st battalion of NDRF with 70 rescuers and necessary equipment and medical aid rushed to the site from Patgaon and launched rescue operations. The teams retrieved two bodies and rescued at least eight injured persons.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the accident. In an official statement, the Chief Minister wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.
