Web Desk, 18 August, 2016:
Mohenjo Daro box office collections have come as a disappointment to the industry as well as Hrithik Roshan’s fans. The actor, who has been seen on screen after a gap of almost two years, had collaborated with Ashutosh Gowariker and they were expected to rekindle Jodhaa Akbar magic.
However, Mohenjo Daro has failed to see that kind of growth. It opened to mixed reviews and failed to create any major buzz. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted the Mohenjo Daro box office figures on Tuesday, “#MohenjoDaro Fri 8.87 cr, Sat 9.60 cr, Sun 12.07 cr, Mon 10.36 cr. Total: ₹ 40.90 cr. India biz.” On Tuesday, the film is estimated to have made Rs 3.5 crore, showing a drastic dip in its numbers.
The Hrithik Roshan, Pooja Hegde film posted the sixth best opening weekend of 2016 but failed to come true on its big budget and trade expectations. Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Sunita Gowariker for Disney’s UTV Motion Pictures and Ashutosh Gowariker Productions, the period drama had a budget of Rs 100 crore and also spent Rs 15 crore on promotion. The film has already earned Rs 60 crore from the sale of satellite rights to Star TV and the music rights to T-Series.

Mohenjo Daro has failed to match up to Akshay Kumar’s Rustom which has earned Rs 75.94 crores within six days. The much talked about clash failed to work in the Hrithik-starrer’s favour. With audience choosing Akshay’s courtroom drama, Mohenjo Daro failed to capitalise on the long Independence Day weekend.
