By Aman Wadud, 29 July, 2016 :
It is a privilege and honour to edit the book of Assam's best known Lawyer and politician Abdul Muhib Mazumder.
My personal favourite from the book "Down The Memory Lane II" is the first chapter, which is on Abdul Matleb Mazumder, the legendary father of the author.
Before Independence, when Muslim League almost swept entire Muslim belt, Abdul Matleb Mazumder, A Congressman, defeated Muslim League candidate by double margin in a Muslim dominated seat.
He fought valiantly for retention of Assam within the dominion of India. He is largely responsible for the fact that Assam is a part of India.
Post Independence he served as Cabinet Minister for 17 years.
He is the only MLA from Barak valley who voted for Assamese Language when Assam Assembly passed Assam State Language Bill. Assam Municipal Act, 1956, is his brainchild.
But unfortunately and most tragically we don't find Abdul Matleb Mazumder's name in history books nor in oral history. Hope this book will serve the purpose of enlightening this generation about a great son of India.

Harsh Mander released the book on 29th day of July 2016 in Guwahati. Retd. Justice A. H. Saikia, Retd Justice D. N. Chowdhury, R. C. Saikia, Prof. Abdul Mannan, C Chowdhury Advocate General of Assam, Sr. Adv HRA Chowdhury and many dignitaries graced the occasion. Nurul Laskar anchored the book launch program.
