Irom Sharmila to end 16-year fast; to contest Manipur elections

 Failing to get any positive response from the Government, Manipur ‘Iron Lady’ Irom Sharmila on Tuesday disclosed that she would end her 15 year long fast demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
  
 “I will break my fast as the Govt has failed to give any positive response,” Irom told agencies adding that she would now fight the upcoming state elections to resolve the issues. The elections for the Manipur Legislative Assembly are scheduled to happen in early 2017.
Multiple reports said that Irom Sharmila will break her fast on August 9. She has been forcibly nose-fed at a government hospital in Imphal all these years.
