Sikkim has claimed to become the first State in India to have an open government data portal.
Web Desk:
Launching the open government data portal 'Sikkim.data.gov.in' and Open Government Data Platform (Sikkim) on Saturday, Lok Sabha MP, P D Rai congratulated the Information Technology Department, Government of Sikkim and NIC team from Delhi for their effort. With the launch of the open government data portal, Sikkim thus became the first State in India to have the portal, State IT officials said.
"With this we have moved to the national platform," Rai said, adding the important thing is to build on it now, for which plenty of hard work is required. Rai also expressed hope to see more organic and agriculture data in the portal. Sikkim Co-operative Union Chairperson Ganesh Rai was also present at the launch. On the open government data portal, data produced or commissioned by the government or government controlled entities can be freely used, reused and redistributed by anyone.
