DR. JUSTICE AFTAB HUSSAIN SAIKIA APPOINTED CHAIRPERSON OF MEGHALAYA HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

Dr. Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia , Chairperson of Assam Human Rights Commission has been appointed as the first Chairperson of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission by the Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Shanmuganathan. Dr. Justice Saikia has formally taken over charge of the office of the Chairperson of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission on 15 July, 2016. Dr. Saikia, is presently the Chairperson Of the Assam Human Rights Commission. The tenure of Dr. Justice Saikia as the Chairperson of the Assam Human Rights Commission will expire on 30th November, 2016. Till then he will be the Chairperson simultaneously in the two Commissions. Justice Saikia was former Chief Justice of the High Courts of Sikkim and Jammu & Kashmir. Initially he was a Judge of the Gauhati High Court before being elevated as Chief Justice.
